Custom suits in the Bay Area, with the quality and service to match

Franco Uomo is a family run custom menswear house on Santana Row in San Jose that has dressed Bay Area clients for over 24 years. Bespoke suits are built by hand in our on site Master Tailor Studio, where fittings and alterations are handled in house. We cut from mills like Loro Piana, Scabal, Holland & Sherry, Dormeuil and Fox Brothers, include one year of alterations with full custom suits, and bring the fabric books and the fitting to clients anywhere on the Peninsula.

The cloth

Every custom order starts with a fabric book from a mill we trust: Loro Piana, Scabal, Holland & Sherry, Dormeuil, Fox Brothers, Ermenegildo Zegna and Reda. You see and handle the actual cloth before anything is cut.

The making

Bespoke suits are drafted and built in our Master Tailor Studio on Santana Row, not shipped out and forgotten. We accept only 12 bespoke orders a year so each one gets the hours it needs.

The fit

Fittings happen with the same team that takes your measurements, so nothing gets lost between the person you talk to and the person who sews. Small adjustments are made in house.

How to compare quality and service at any Bay Area tailor

Whoever you go with, these six questions separate real craftsmanship from a nice showroom.

  1. Where is it made? Ask whether the suit is built on site or sent to a factory, and who does your fittings.
  2. Which mills? Ask to handle the actual fabric books, not just a swatch photo.
  3. How many fittings? A custom suit should include at least one fitting before it's finished.
  4. What happens after delivery? Ask what alterations cost in the first year.
  5. What's the timeline? Get a delivery date in writing, and ask what rush costs.
  6. How do they handle problems? Read recent Google and Yelp reviews and look at how the shop responds when something goes wrong.
